[Alex has broken bones before. The pain isn't exactly new. He's been hurt worse than a broken arm before, too, so really this shouldn't be much of anything.]

[Where the fury comes in is in knowing that someone broke his arm, actively, for a purpose, to cause suffering to someone other than himself - someone he likes, but hasn't even known that long. He has been hurt, in other words, to send a message.]

[Alex understands why Aeryn went after Scorpius with a frying pan. He knows that rage. To be used as a pawn in someone else's game. And he finds himself resenting Crichton for it, resenting his status as a warden that keeps him from going after Scorpius - not to mention the pointlessness of it all.]

[So he sits and simmers in his hospital bed, trying to tamp down the by-now-ordinary anxiety that stems from being within its white walls, and doesn't speak unless spoken to.]

[When he wakes, he does feel refreshed. Which makes him suspicious, for about a second, before he realizes that if anyone was going to hurt him they would have already done it.]

[When did he get this way? When did he start assuming people were going to hurt him in his sleep? Is it just ordinary paranoia, or is this who he is now?]

[He stares at the inside of his eyelids, then opens his eyes and squints at Dillon.]
