Bruce!

[Here, Barge; have some screaming. Then some panicked hyperventilating.]

I'm looking for Bruce Wayne. He's not in his cabin, I've checked everywhere - has anyone seen him?

I'm - Alex Summers, for new people, I guess, if you see him, he's my inmate, I need to make sure he didn't get sent to Zero--

[He slams the feed off when he realizes he can't continue to form words. He's too scared, too tired, and most importantly too closed in. He can't keep looking. He has to find the sky.]

[A few minutes later, he's on deck, leaning over the real and breathing deeply and slowly through his nose. It feels like years since he's had the space to move around, even though it's really just been days. He's numb head to foot, adrenaline draining from his system. All he wants to do is sleep.]

[He can't sleep. He can't do anything.]

[Fuck.]

[Charles has by this point changed into clothes that are considerably more normal, if not quite the same cuddly sweaters he's usually in, so when he finds Alex on deck, he wonders if he'll even notice he's different.

And when he realizes how upset Alex is, he wonders if he should act like he isn't, because it sounds like his counterpart might know what the hell to do, and he definitely doesn't. Especially considering how he remembers their last conversation going.

He's... different. He can tell that even without really diving deep into his mind, and it's beyond strange, even if he's not a stranger to floods. This one feels more real, somehow, and that's what finally makes him call out to him.]

Alex.

[He's always felt in over his head with this, with being a comfort to someone or knowing instinctively what they need to hear. His power probably should have made it easier, but Erik's always the one who seems to know exactly what to say.

Still. Probably better to try than leave him here, struggling. It's better than he could do for the boy he knows.]

Everything is going to be alright.

wedonot: (Default)

[personal profile] wedonot 2014-02-23 03:15 am (UTC)(link)

And it will be.

[Although he's genuinely not sure what Alex is upset about, and tries not to let the confusion show in his face.

He's not sure if it would be better or worse to say that it's a flood, that there's a good chance he's been affected by it. It could be reassuring, but he knows first hand that it's definitely not, really.

His next question is similarly almost stilted, like he's doing his best to say the right thing but not quite sure he's managed it.]

What can I do?

wedonot: (Default)

[personal profile] wedonot 2014-02-23 03:24 am (UTC)(link)

I haven't.

[But he hasn't seen Erik either, and apparently, that's a good thing. This version of him is free, and he's the aberration this time.]

We're apparently experiencing a flood. Whatever happened to you might have already happened months ago. It's possible he's fine.

[He can't know for sure, though. He's not the Charles Xavier Alex probably thinks and wants him to be, and he doesn't know what happened to Bruce in this Alex's future, and anything he might be able to tell him about his counterpart will probably be depressing.]

[He reaches out to soothe the fear and anger without asking permission (he almost never does), and tries to keep it as gentle as possible. He's usually not so careful, but even if Alex - the other Alex - hadn't thought so, he had cared about him. He'd cared about him a lot, and even if this one seems different, it's not bad.

He's tired and angry and maybe whining a bit, but there's an earnestness he's not used to and it makes him curious. And he wants to help.]

I don't know what happened. Who told you he was gone?

[personal profile] wedonot 2014-02-24 03:05 am (UTC)(link)

Alex- [He hesitates again, unsure.]

This is a flood. Those affected have been pulled in from different points in the timeline. What month do you think it is?

wedonot: (Default)

[personal profile] wedonot 2014-02-25 03:37 am (UTC)(link)

I was told it was February, but I thought it was October.

I'm... affected. [He says it kind of like the way someone would announce they've been infected with something unpleasant.]

[personal profile] wedonot 2014-02-25 03:48 am (UTC)(link)

A different Barge. [And he's tempted to leave it at that, but he feels like he owes Alex more of an explanation.

He's still angry about how things went between them, and he wishes it was easier for him to know what to do for a kid who was angry and hurt and needed guidance.]

I've been told yours is meant for redemption.

[There is a chapel here.

Ben badly wants to see inside it, wants to
know, but it's a dangerous want; he must keep it hidden, keep it safe, and never give in to it. There are too many people here trapped in too small a space. He must prove he has never given any though to the Lady, that he is sound, he is reliable.

He does not recognize the boy leaning against the rail and staring at the sky as he navigates the deck with his crutches; he has been told repeatedly he is allowed to be here, but he still doesn't quite believe it, so he is cautious but he does not let himself hesitate.

At least not until he realizes that the man does not appear to be well at all. He pauses, then, but doesn't speak. Yet.

[The moment Alex looks at Ben in a way he absolutely cannot begin to decipher, Ben knows this was a bad idea; but he's been noticed and so he's pinned there, obligated to wait to be dismissed, suddenly terrified by the emotions he can't at all read in the warden's expression.

It's safest to assume he's about to be punished; his jaw tenses but he does not otherwise move, smoothing the lines of his frame into the best semblance of formal that he can, and does not react to his name.
]

My designation is X5-493.

I apologize, sir. I was informed I had clearance to occupy this level.

[Whoever this stranger is, there is an anger in him that terrifies Ben; a lack of control. He breathes in and lets it out slowly, carefully, to avoid shrinking back or reacting. If the narrowing of his eyes turns into something else, Ben will be expected to take it and stand ready for more, for further instructions, for correction.

He'd forgotten how much he hated Manticore.

But again the words are strange, they don't make sense, because he is also confused. Ben's teeth push silently against each other, jaw clenching subtly, but he has to have an answer.
]

I can neither confirm nor deny your orders, sir. I will answer as I am addressed, however that may be.
warisart: (Uncertain)

[personal profile] warisart 2014-03-28 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Ben watches from behind his shield of impassiveness as Alex becomes more distressed; the X5's pulse rises alongside, equal parts empathetic and in fear for his own wellbeing. He does not move.

He hesitates, but only because the question is so expansive; one of his fingers twitches, but there's nothing for it. He needs clarification to answer honestly, and he won't answer otherwise unless required to do so.
]

The last thing I remember when, sir?

[On the last day of the flood, Scorpius goes hunting.

He'd been meaning to track down Alex for some time. Barring leverage on either Crichton or Aeryn, he began to expand his circle to include those closest to them. And as John was currently unpaired, that only left Aeryn's warden.

He wanted Crichton and Aeryn both to know that they were not safe. He wanted them to know how easy it was to get to them; how open they left themselves and how vulnerable they truly were.

For this, he sought after Alex.

And there he was now, leaning over the rail and looking out at the stars. He looks exhausted, and he's turned away from Scorpius.

Perfect.

Scorpius is on him within seconds. He seizes the young warden by the back of the neck and drives him forward, hard and fast, to smash his head against the rail]

[While he doesn't know the specifics of Alex's ability, Scorpius knows that he doesn't want to be on the wrong end of it. He reaches down and turns the boy over on his stomach so that the blast end is facing the deck.

A hand fists into Alex's hair, as his head is brought back up again and slammed into the deck.]

[While Alex's ability remains a mystery to Scorpius, he does know that he doesn't want Alex up and facing him to attack. Using his superior angle, he twists the warden's arm behind his back, pressing him down against the deck and kneeling beside his head]

Shh, shh. Don't struggle. It will only hurt worse.

[While he has a distinct distaste for brawling and much prefers to use his mind over all other forms of warfare, Scorpius does have the strength where needed to hold down a struggling teenager. He's been sapped of his Scarran strength, but it's just as well: anything to separate him from that side of his heritage. Now he's around the capability of what he guesses is human strength, considering the standard set by the Barge.

But just because he has the ability doesn't mean he'd like to draw this out. They won't go unnoticed on the deck for long, and Scorpius still needs to find time to drag Alex below without being seen.

He glances around once for those who might be in potential earshot, before delicately setting his foot on Alex's forearm. With a hard, fast jerk, he twist the warden's arm up in a clean but torturous break.

All in an effort to reduce the struggle.]

[He waits, patiently, for Alex to fall unconscious. Once he does, Scorpius lets the boy's arm drop to the side, turning him over on his back and checking his vitals. He's had some experience with John but ultimately doesn't know much about the way humans function in reaction to pain. For example, in John's case it seemed to be spewing out seemingly never-ending non sequiturs.

But Alex is still, and with a slight sigh of satisfaction, Scorpius bends down to throw Alex's good arm over his shoulders. Warden in hand, he begins the careful trek down to Crichton's room.
