Bruce!
[Here, Barge; have some screaming. Then some panicked hyperventilating.]
I'm looking for Bruce Wayne. He's not in his cabin, I've checked everywhere - has anyone seen him?
I'm - Alex Summers, for new people, I guess, if you see him, he's my inmate, I need to make sure he didn't get sent to Zero--

[He slams the feed off when he realizes he can't continue to form words. He's too scared, too tired, and most importantly too closed in. He can't keep looking. He has to find the sky.]
[A few minutes later, he's on deck, leaning over the real and breathing deeply and slowly through his nose. It feels like years since he's had the space to move around, even though it's really just been days. He's numb head to foot, adrenaline draining from his system. All he wants to do is sleep.]
[He can't sleep. He can't do anything.]
[Fuck.]

And when he realizes how upset Alex is, he wonders if he should act like he isn't, because it sounds like his counterpart might know what the hell to do, and he definitely doesn't. Especially considering how he remembers their last conversation going.
He's... different. He can tell that even without really diving deep into his mind, and it's beyond strange, even if he's not a stranger to floods. This one feels more real, somehow, and that's what finally makes him call out to him.]
Alex.

[But Charles is whole and hale and hearty before him. Everything's fine.]
[Probably.]
[He sucks in his breath.]
Yeah?
no subject
Still. Probably better to try than leave him here, struggling. It's better than he could do for the boy he knows.]
Everything is going to be alright.
no subject
Yeah, everybody keeps saying that. "It's over, it's gonna be okay."
Everybody keeps saying that.
no subject
[Although he's genuinely not sure what Alex is upset about, and tries not to let the confusion show in his face.
He's not sure if it would be better or worse to say that it's a flood, that there's a good chance he's been affected by it. It could be reassuring, but he knows first hand that it's definitely not, really.
His next question is similarly almost stilted, like he's doing his best to say the right thing but not quite sure he's managed it.]
What can I do?
no subject
Have you seen Bruce? Somebody says he's gone.
[Which, frankly, terrifies the crap out of him.]
no subject
[But he hasn't seen Erik either, and apparently, that's a good thing. This version of him is free, and he's the aberration this time.]
We're apparently experiencing a flood. Whatever happened to you might have already happened months ago. It's possible he's fine.
[He can't know for sure, though. He's not the Charles Xavier Alex probably thinks and wants him to be, and he doesn't know what happened to Bruce in this Alex's future, and anything he might be able to tell him about his counterpart will probably be depressing.]
no subject
[There's a whine in his voice - he hears it and makes no effort to correct it. He's angry and exhausted and scared, and Charles seems weird and distant. Nothing is how it should be.]
no subject
He's tired and angry and maybe whining a bit, but there's an earnestness he's not used to and it makes him curious. And he wants to help.]
I don't know what happened. Who told you he was gone?
no subject
But he says Bruce went home voluntarily. He hasn't graduated, Charles. It's got to be a lie.
no subject
This is a flood. Those affected have been pulled in from different points in the timeline. What month do you think it is?
no subject
[Goddamn floods.]
March. Isn't it March?
no subject
I'm... affected. [He says it kind of like the way someone would announce they've been infected with something unpleasant.]
no subject
What - what do you remember, then?
no subject
He's still angry about how things went between them, and he wishes it was easier for him to know what to do for a kid who was angry and hurt and needed guidance.]
I've been told yours is meant for redemption.
no subject
What, isn't yours?
no subject
[Even if the other Alex... really, really does.]
We're all very different people. You're lucky.

Ben badly wants to see inside it, wants to know, but it's a dangerous want; he must keep it hidden, keep it safe, and never give in to it. There are too many people here trapped in too small a space. He must prove he has never given any though to the Lady, that he is sound, he is reliable.
He does not recognize the boy leaning against the rail and staring at the sky as he navigates the deck with his crutches; he has been told repeatedly he is allowed to be here, but he still doesn't quite believe it, so he is cautious but he does not let himself hesitate.
At least not until he realizes that the man does not appear to be well at all. He pauses, then, but doesn't speak. Yet.]
no subject
[They are friends, but not close friends; not yet. He remembers Ben, but in the fevered fury of his mind right now he doesn't remember the last time he spoke to him. Was it when he told him about where he was going, protecting Megamind? Was there another conversation after that? Everything's been a blur, and he's so exhausted.]
[Then again, when he looks at Ben, it seems like maybe it isn't him after all. Alex shifts slightly away from the rail and looks at this man, this boy, with bleary hesitation.]
[Finally, he tries. What is the worst that could happen that hasn't already?]
Ben? Is it Ben?
no subject
It's safest to assume he's about to be punished; his jaw tenses but he does not otherwise move, smoothing the lines of his frame into the best semblance of formal that he can, and does not react to his name.]
My designation is X5-493.
I apologize, sir. I was informed I had clearance to occupy this level.
no subject
[Alex freezes at that, confused. That's not - Ben is Ben now, isn't he? Isn't that how they have decided, mutually and without ever quite directly hashing it out, that they will address each other, him being Alex and Ben being Ben? Has he done something wrong? He must have.]
[Or else someone else has. After a moment, Alex figures it out: Ben is scared. Someone's scared him. He narrows his eyes but otherwise tries, really really tries, not to react.]
You have clearance to occupy wherever you want.
I thought . . . I was supposed to call you Ben. I thought - [we were friends.]
no subject
He'd forgotten how much he hated Manticore.
But again the words are strange, they don't make sense, because he is also confused. Ben's teeth push silently against each other, jaw clenching subtly, but he has to have an answer.]
I can neither confirm nor deny your orders, sir. I will answer as I am addressed, however that may be.
no subject
[He rakes his hand through his hair, blowing out a long, gusty sigh.]
I don't understand. You don't remember me at all? Did something - I guess you wouldn't remember if something happened to you. [But God, he wants to know who did it if it did.] What's the last thing you remember?
no subject
He hesitates, but only because the question is so expansive; one of his fingers twitches, but there's nothing for it. He needs clarification to answer honestly, and he won't answer otherwise unless required to do so.]
The last thing I remember when, sir?
no subject
[He worries his lip, tapping his fingers together, first and thumb, first and thumb.]
Because I remember remembering you. I remember us being friends.
I don't know if that's wrong. Maybe I'm crazy.

Who's looking f'r Batman?

Have you seen him?
no subject
No. I haven't, sorry mate.

If you see him, let me know?
no subject
[You absolutely will not.]

He'd been meaning to track down Alex for some time. Barring leverage on either Crichton or Aeryn, he began to expand his circle to include those closest to them. And as John was currently unpaired, that only left Aeryn's warden.
He wanted Crichton and Aeryn both to know that they were not safe. He wanted them to know how easy it was to get to them; how open they left themselves and how vulnerable they truly were.
For this, he sought after Alex.
And there he was now, leaning over the rail and looking out at the stars. He looks exhausted, and he's turned away from Scorpius.
Perfect.
Scorpius is on him within seconds. He seizes the young warden by the back of the neck and drives him forward, hard and fast, to smash his head against the rail]

[He feels angry.]
[He twists, trying to get a look at his attacker. One glance over his shoulder is all it takes. He gives Scorpius a sharp, pained glare.]
You - [He spits out blood.] - serious?
[More twisting, trying to get his torso facing Scorpius.]

Shh, shh. Don't struggle. It will only hurt worse.

But just because he has the ability doesn't mean he'd like to draw this out. They won't go unnoticed on the deck for long, and Scorpius still needs to find time to drag Alex below without being seen.
He glances around once for those who might be in potential earshot, before delicately setting his foot on Alex's forearm. With a hard, fast jerk, he twist the warden's arm up in a clean but torturous break.
All in an effort to reduce the struggle.]

[Jesus Christ.]
[Now, finally, he goes still.]

But Alex is still, and with a slight sigh of satisfaction, Scorpius bends down to throw Alex's good arm over his shoulders. Warden in hand, he begins the careful trek down to Crichton's room.
